- Step 1: Installing Power BI Desktop
- Download Power BI Desktop:
- Visit the Power BI official download page.
- Click on the Download Free button.
- Choose Microsoft Store or Download directly.
- If you choose Microsoft Store:
- The link will open the Microsoft Store app.
- Click on the Get button to install Power BI Desktop.
- If you download directly:
- Open the downloaded file and follow the installation prompts.
- Install Power BI Desktop:
- Once the download completes, run the installer.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
- Once installed, launch Power BI Desktop from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.

- Open Power BI Desktop:
- Launch Power BI Desktop from your Start menu or desktop.
- Connect to Data Sources:
- Click on Get Data on the Home tab.
- Choose the type of data source (e.g., Excel, SQL Server, Web).
- Enter the necessary connection details and click Connect.
- Load and Prepare Data:
- After connecting, you can load data directly into Power BI.
- Use the Query Editor to clean and transform the data (e.g., remove columns, filter rows).
- Create Visualizations:
- Drag and drop fields from your data onto the report canvas.
- Use the Visualizations pane to choose chart types (e.g., bar chart, pie chart, map).
- Format visualizations using the Format pane.
- Build Reports:
- Add multiple pages to your report by clicking on the + at the bottom.
- Arrange visualizations and add text boxes, images, and shapes as needed.
- Save and Publish Reports:
- Save your report by clicking File > Save As.
- To publish the report to Power BI Service, click on Publish on the Home tab.
- Select a workspace in Power BI Service to publish the report.

- Visit Power BI Service:
- Go to the Power BI Service website. https://app.powerbi.com
- Sign Up:
- If you don’t have an account, click on Sign Up Free.
- Choose Try Power BI for free.
- Enter your work email address and click Next.
- Use institute, company, or school domain email for sign up. Gmail and Yahoo will be rejected by Microsoft.

- Complete the signup process by filling out the required details.
- Verify your email address if prompted.
- Once signed up, you’ll be redirected to the Power BI Service dashboard.

- Access Your Workspace:
- Log in to Power BI Service.
- Navigate to the workspace where you published your report.
- View Reports and Dashboards:
- Click on Reports to view your published reports.
- Create dashboards by pinning visualizations from reports.
- Share Reports and Dashboards:
- Click on the Share button to share reports or dashboards with others.
- Enter email addresses and set permissions.
- Schedule Refreshes:
- If your data source supports it, set up scheduled refreshes in the Datasets section.
